Form 1
Name: Claire
Occupation: Retired Primary School Teacher
1. Do you think the colour scheme is visually appealing
and not overwhelming?
I like the colour scheme used and
feel that it is appropriate for the activity sheet. It is not overwhelming, but
just enough to add interest to the activity.
2. Do you feel the children will be able to engage with
the activities and not lose interest?
I think the children will love
being detectives! When we have used the detective type activity in the school
where I worked, the children were so excited and very engaged by the
activities. I believe that this activity sheet will give children the
opportunity to explore the two eras mentioned and because the activity is fun,
they will also learn and take in the information so easily without realising
it! Due to the fact that the activity sheet has so many different activities
included, I believe that it would keep the children’s interest.
3. Is the grammar throughout appropriate and the descriptions
explanatory for a 7–9-year-old?
I feel that the grammar and
descriptions used were appropriate for the age range.
4. Is the typography appropriate and legible for a
7–9-year-old child?
I think that the typography is
legible and appropriate for the age range.
5. Overall, do you feel the activity sheets is fun and
engaging whilst also being educational?
I believe that this activity sheet
would be engaging for children because it gives them a role to play and fun
activities to undertake while learning.
Are there any further suggestions with regards to how I
could improve my activity book?
Overall I love the activity sheet!
I really like the character A Badden, and the fact that he is involved in a
storyline with the rats, whilst the children have to play detective to save the
maps. I think that the art work is lovely and has a great style to it, which
helps to bring the story and theme to life. The design also works for both
Egypt 1926 and London 1940. I think that the children would love their own
secret agent badge and certificate when they have completed the tasks. When
completing the tasks, I believe that the children would both love to work
together to solve it or to work alone as the detective, so the activities can
work in different situations. With teachings about the two eras in history, I
think that the activity sheet would really help to cement the children’s
learning as it makes it fun and gives them a sense of achievement having found
all of the answers to complete their mission. The age range and the ability of
the children completing the activity sheet may make a difference. For the
younger age range, it may be an idea to add in a few more letters into the
hidden mysteries where they need to unscramble the letters, as well as the word
search. This may help to boost their confidence if it is not too hard with
those extra letters as clues. Again, this would very much depend on the ability
of the children as well as their age. All in all, I love the theme, the design
and everything about it! I can see the amount of time, effort and thought that
has gone into completing this activity sheet, and I think that would result in
a great amount of enjoyment and learning for any children that were able to
complete the activity sheet, and defeat Mr A Badden!
Form 2
(Unfortunately, they couldn't open the feedback form so they wrote some general feedback instead)
Name: Jacqueline
Occupation: Primary School Teacher
1. Maps are very hard to read and understand, could you add
some legends on the side to explain some of the lines and dots?
2. Why is everything in capital letters? This makes it
really hard to read. It's best to use a simple clear font like Arial.
3. Always think about what you want the pupil to learn and
make that learning objective explicit. L.O: to...
4. Is this meant to be a booklet? If so, why are there two
topics? WW1 then Egypt?
5. The page labelled: London pg3 mentions connective words,
are the children looking for conjunctions? If so, why?

Are there any further suggestions with regards to how I
could improve my activity book?
The only thing I suggest is a glossary with little funny
pictures to explain some of the more complicated words as it can be difficult
for us parents to explain meanings sometimes.
I really enjoyed it and so did Jack.
