Digitising Activity Pages
Week 11
Map Pages (Egypt and London)
For these pages I scanned in my preliminary layout of the hands, title and map placement. However, when I scanned these into the computer the colours didn't translate very well and the individual letters of the title didn't seem uniform and was instead slightly disjointed in size. To resolve the problem, I opted to retouch the hands and redo the title in Photoshop.
In order to keep the texture of the hands, that I had created using analogue techniques, I investigated a variety of brushes available on Photoshop. The brushes I favoured were: Gouache Bristle Super Dry and Pastella.
When amending the titles I drew two horizontal lines as a guide for the sizing of my letters. I then traced over the title with the Brush Tool (Hard Round Brush) and used the Paint Bucket Tool to fill in the negative space of the letters. In my sketchbook pages I added white accents to the lettering, which at the time seemed intriguing. However, when I copied this technique on the computer it didn't translate the same. By utilising a separate layer on Photoshop, I experimented by copying the title and staggering it behind the original lettering. Following this, I reduced the opacity to create a shadow effect. I feel this created a more visually appealing effect and the lettering didn't seem as flat.
